Custom Your Own Doll — Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Commission & Design
To start your custom doll journey, please provide:
- Character reference images
- Specific requests (hair color, eye color, embroidery color, doll size, facial expression)
There are two main design styles to choose from:
- Simple Design — Uses larger color blocks and fewer shades. It’s more affordable and beginner-friendly.
- Complex Design — More detailed lines, richer colors, gradient effects. Beautiful but harder and costlier to produce.
• Want something safe, budget-friendly, and reliable? Choose Simple Design.
• Want a stunning one-of-a-kind doll and don’t mind the challenge? Choose Complex Design!
Step 2: Confirm the Craft Details
1. Hair Fabric
The hair fabric sets the tone for your doll’s look! Options include standard plush, rabbit fur, fluffy fiber, and high-temperature fiber.
Learn more in our blog: “Cotton Doll Hair Materials.”
2. Embroidery Technique
Basic embroidery stitches the bangs directly onto the face, sometimes with small side hairpieces.
The upgraded version has liftable or detachable embroidered bangs for a layered style.
Step 3: Communicate with Customer Service
Once your draft is ready, confirm details like hair material, embroidery method, and color palette. Then, we’ll move into the sample-making stage.
1. Digital Embroidery Draft
Preview before stitching begins — includes body and hair embroidery. Focus on:
- Eye spacing
- Chin length
- Overall similarity to the draft
2. Embroidered Face (Sample Skin)
This brings your design to life. If you chose embroidered bangs, they’ll appear here too.
Check for thread breaks, skipped stitches, and color accuracy.
Step 4: Production & Completion
3. Stuffing and Final Product
Your doll is almost complete! The factory will send you photos of the finished version — the factory photos.
Not fully satisfied? You can always request a second sample.
Step 5: Finishing Touches & Custom Play
Now the fun part — bringing your doll to life!
- Rúa your doll — gently knead and reshape to correct proportions
- Give it a bath or replace the stuffing if needed
- Add makeup — use a little human blush
- Install a skeleton for better posing (hand-installed ones move best)
- Style the hair — use wax or gel, especially for fluffy or heat-resistant fibers
